Concerned over attacks on tourists in the state, Meghalaya government has asked traditional headmen of different localities to open offices to help the visitors.

In a meeting with the ‘‘synjuk ki rangbah shnong’’ (a conglomerate of traditional headmen in and around Shillong) recently, Chief Minister D.D. Lapang urged them to open offices in their areas to help the tourists to get proper hotel accommodation, book taxi for sight-seeing and also provide them with guides.

The government’s move came in the wake of recent attack on two foreign tourists by some miscreants in a Shillong locality. The headmen were also urged by the government to arrange for paying guest facilities at places like Cherrapunjee frequented by tourists.
