March 8: A sessions court here has sentenced two persons to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for ten years after convicting them for possession of charas, a low grade brown sugar.

The convicts, Rakesh Kumar and Attar Hussain, have also been ordered by the additional sessions at the Patiala House courts to pay a fine of Rs one lakh each or undergo additional RI for six months in lieu thereof, a CBI press note said here today.

The convicts, hailing from Gonda district of UP, were arrested by the CBI from a park in the heart of the city after they were found in possession of 4.7 kg of charas on February 24, 1997.
