The timing may be tantalising but the CBI is not expected to pull any major political punches on former UP CM Mayawati when it submits its 100-page status report on the Taj Corridor case to the apex court on Friday.
This is the second status report being submitted and will detail the progress the agency has made in the two cases it has registered in its inquiry into the Rs 175-crore Taj Corridor case.
CBI officials handling the case revealed that while they were in the thick of tabulating Mayawati’s assets, they have made ‘‘good progress’’ on unearthing the role of R.K. Sharma, the former Environment Secretary in Mayawati’s government as well as other key bureaucrats who formed part of her circle.
Once the CBI completes its probe into Mayawati’s moveable and immovable assets, all properties and lands will have to be independently valued, which officials say is a time-consuming process.
