You’ve heard of fashion designers, stylists but ever met a fashion curator? Shaan Thadhani is one
This one’s something we hadn’t heard of before. Which is why when the invite mentioned a trunk show put together by a fashion curator, we had to do a re-read. While we have all heard of fashion designers, of course, and stylists but never a curator. Do they work like art curators do? “Pretty much on the same lines,” Shaan Thadhani smiled to say. Interestingly, Shaan brought to town a fashion trunk show, one that was stylishly hosted by Nalini Sibal at her children’s pad ‘Kid’s Own’ in Sector 17 this Thursday. Having spent as long as seven years overseas working with leading names in international fashion, Thadhani came home to pursue a career as a fashion curator. “There are two parts to my work. While one sees me work in a manufacturing business, the other one sees me put together shows such as these,” lists out Shaan who brought to the city works by as many as 11 designers. “The idea is to bring designer work here and also give an opportunity to the discerning buyers to view collections they would otherwise have to travel to Delhi for,” mentions Shaan who meticulously hand-picked each of the garments that were on sale. “You have to keep in mind design sensibilities from both sides,” mentioned Shaan as we eyed a rack full of designer satin tunics by designer Gaurav Gupta. Considering he’s always in then thick of fashion, we get him to list out the trends for the season ahead. “For one, the bling’s gone muted in a chic way and colours like grey, black, blue are at play,” lists out Thadhani who goes on to mention “graphic prints” as a must-have. “When it comes to fashion trends, I am a non-believer,” he surprises us. “Instead,” says Thadhani, “make your own statements. There are so many designers to choose from and this year has seen an upsurge of new, young ones. So the idea is to pick up what best suits you.” Now, that’s easy to do, right? .
