MUMBAI, JUNE 14: Select pivotals led by infotech stocks recovered on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today on limited buying support by foreign funds coupled with local support. The sentiment was also boosted following start of the new account on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the recovery in technology-high Nasdaq Composite Index.

The benchmark Sensex started higher at 4648.78 and later moved in a narrow range of 4693.67 and 4604.50 before closing at 4624.04 with a small gain of 9.91 points compared to the last level of 4615.13. The BSE-100 index also edged up by 12.84 points to 2298.92 from the previous close of 2286.08. The 50-share Nifty index on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 2.60 points to 1435.50.

Brokers said Himachal Futuristic (HFCL) remained in the limelight throughout the day on news that the government had cleared Australian media major Kerry Packer’s proposal to invest in the company at a rate of of Rs 1450 per share. HFCL was the most active share with a turnover of Rs 611.93 crore of the total business volume of Rs 3,846.99 crore and the scrip gained smartly by Rs 101.65 to Rs 1,499.

FIIs were reportedly net buyers in Digital Equipment, SSI, Wipro, Satyam Computers, Infosys Tech as also Himachal Futuristic. They, however, sold heavily in Zee Telefilms which showed a sharp fall of 9.77 per cent by Rs 51.30 to Rs 473.95 on selling pressure.

Of the 76 gainers in the specified list, SSI Ltd was locked in the 12 per cent upper circuit-filter at close while 63 shares registered losses. Satyam Computer gained Rs 38.75 at Rs 3,046.75, Global Tele Rs 17.85 at Rs 1,271.20, BSES Rs 5.35 at Rs 261.95, HLL Rs 36.90 at Rs 2,533.90, Hindalco Rs 11 at Rs 840.55 and Infosys Tech Rs 43.45 at Rs 7,846.35. ITC, Mahindra and Mahindra, NIIT, Novartis, Ranbaxy and SBI also remained better.
