GROZNY, NOV 19: At least 170 people were killed in Russian missile strikes on Chechnya even as Moscow defied western criticism of its onslaught at the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) summit held in Istanbul.
Seventy people died when five surface-to-surface missiles slammed into the capital, Grozny, late Wednesday. Another 100 people died when five more rockets struck Urus-Martan, 20 km from the rebel capital, Grozny officials said on Thursday. There was no independent confirmation of the figures.
