In what could be a significant move that would have a long-lasting impact on insurgency-related violence in Assam, the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) has removed its chairman and dreaded rebel leader Ranjan Daimary and appointed B Sungthaga in his place.
The replacement of its chairman, the first since its inception way back in 1986, came in the wake of the Indian government sending a strong message to Bangladesh on Monday asking it to stop providing shelter to various armed rebel groups.
Daimary, who is also known as Ransaigra Nabla Daimary alias D R Nabla, founded the NDFB on October 3, 1986. He was removed from the outfit at a marathon meeting of its general council that met at Serfanguri in Kokrajhar district on Monday.
