THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 12: It is for the Prime Minister or the Union Cabinet to give green signal to the state government’s proposal for developing an airport at Kannur in north Kerala, Union Civil Aviation Minister Sharad Yadav said here today.

At a meet-the-press programme here, Yadav said only the Prime Minister or the Cabinet as a whole could waive the stipulation that there should be a distance of 150 km between two airports which came in the way of his ministry giving clearance to the proposal.

Yadav, however, said the Kannur airport was not a closed chapter as the Chief Minister E.K. Nayanar was learnt to have taken up the matter with the Prime Minister.

Responding to the demand from journalists for appointing a media relations officer in Thiruvananthapuram international airport, Yadav directed the airport officials present to take immediate action on the matter.
