Behind the scenes Changing Faces is adman Brendan Pereira’s concept of advertising as he has seen it progress over the last 40-odd years. Having been in the industry for so long, and come up with some of the best concepts in the world of print advertising, Pereira’s coffee-table sized book gives you a fair idea of how the world of there has gone by. Pictures of everything Pereira, chairman and creator of Nova Advertising Palace, has done, for Indian and foreign clients alike, are as insightful, if not more, than the text. The book is priced at Rs 750, money that goes to any one of three charities listed in the last page of the book. Man with a heart, it must be said.

Truss the table

With a little help from Bombay Store. They have organised a tableware promotion — The Tablewear Tryst’, which constitutes the many ways you can dress up your table. To display their new collection of China, Bombay Store has come up with a novel promotion idea — to get professionals from the hotel andhome designer industry and hold live table decoration and setting demonstrations at the store. With names such as Hitkari, Borosil, Noritake, Hoya, Rosenthal, Pimpernel, Ritzenhoff and Laklain on display and sale, the arrangements should be exciting. Another neat move is tea-tasting sessions that will be on at the same time.

The display will be on at The Bombay Store, from March 15 to March 27, all day.

Mail order fashion

No more of that I-wish-I-could-buy’ look when you pass designer show-windows. Barcode, a within-means fashion label, has been in town for quite some time now. But if you don’t have the time to visit this clothing option at Heera Panna, Haji Ali, then wait for it to be just a mail order away. This will not only offer the colours, sizes and price details, it will also gives tips on how to measure yourself’ and wash care instructions’. Answer to Seers, is it?

The Pitambari Collection, originating from Calcutta, is making waves in Mumbai now, and not for it’s exquisite designs alone. Sushila Tikmany, the modest housewife who stamped her name across ethnic fashion-consious minds in Calcutta, and then slowly spread her collection of designer wear over the country, works with a cause. What started as a kind gesture to help Bangladeshi refugees make a living through stitching in 1968, till date continues to be a venture that employs rural artisans – with almost 20 per cent still being refugees.

Designer wear that is ethnic, authentic and beautiful is what Tikmany’s label has to offer. And while you’re paying, do remember where your money is going.
