CHANDIGARH, Sept 8: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today took suo motu cognisance of the 57 existing and anticipated vacancies in the Haryana Judicial Services and 37 existing and anticipated vacancies in the Punjab Judicial Services, which have remained unfilled for a long time now.

A division bench comprising Justice G.C. Garg and Justice N.K. Aggaral issued notice of motion to the states of Punjab and Haryana as also the Punjab and Haryana Public Service Commissions to show cause as to why directions be not given to notify vacancies and make appointments on basis of merit to the PCS (Judicial) and HCS (Judicial) within a period of 4 months.

The notices which have been issued for September 15 were accepted by the Deputy Advocate General, Punjab, and the Advocate General, Haryana, on the asking of the court, while notices have also been directed to be issued to the Punjab Public Service Commission and Haryana Public Service Commission within 2 days along with a copy of the order passed by the court.
