The warmth in the relationship between the Congress party and the Chinese Communist Party continues with Beijing depending on party channels to keep the relationship going. Congress President Sonia Gandhi met with Wang Jiarui of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist party on November 28 in the capital en route to Nepal. At the meeting, Sonia recalled her successful trip to China recently and expressed hope that the friendship between India and China would become a positive factor for peace and prosperity of the region. Wang, however, went on then to reach out to Nepal’s Maoists and communist leaders, much to the discomfort of India, which is increasingly concerned at China’s growing interest in the internal affairs of Nepal.
