A 60-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his 15-year-old granddaughter at Odanga village in Orissa’s Jajpur district, police said on Friday.
The accused Chaitanya Das of the village in Rasulpur block happens to be the grandfather (brother of grandmother) of the victim, police said.
He was arrested yesterday and produced before a court at Chandikhole and sent to jail as his bail plea was rejected.
“Though the incident happened three months ago, it came to the police recently after the victim’s family and villagers failed to settle it,” police said.
“Das used to visit the girl’s house and developed physical relationship with her time and again. But nobody doubted until the girl’s pregnancy was confirmed,” Jayeeram Satpathy, inspector-in-charge of Dharmasala police station said.
