New Delhi, Nov 21: Indian Newspaper Society president Mammen Mathew today said INS had `no quarrel’ with the Press Council of India if its chairman Justice P B Sawant was not against private ownership of newspapers. Mathew said INS has in its membership cooperative newspaper Jan Morcha from UP.

“So there is no question of INS being against newspapers in cooperative sector.” Justice Sawant had clarified he had only advocated that in addition to private ownership there could be entities such as cooperatives and trusts to run newspapers and not suggested abolition of private sector. He also said INS had veered round to his views in its recent statement saying it was not against cooperative owners and that they can co-exist with private owners.
