The Indian team was off to a good start after getting the better of Russia in their opening match of the World Junior Badminton Championships held at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City, Balewadi on Friday.
After a good performance at the Commonwealth Youth Games which concluded recently, India carried on their good form by beating their Russian counterparts 4-1. In the men’s singles event, RMV Gurusaidatta cruised past Nikolay Matazov in straight sets, 21-7 and 21-7. Saina Nehwal did not have too much trouble defeating opponent Natalia Perminova 21-9 and 21-14. in the men’s doubles event, the pairing of B Sai Praneeth and Pranav Chopra comprehensively defeated opponents Konstantin Abramov and Yaroslav Egerev 21-14, 21-9. India faultered in the womens doubles event when the duo of PC Thulasi and Sikki Reddy lost to Romina Gabdullina and Anastasia Chervyakova in straight sets 19-21 and 17-21. However, the mixed doubles pairing of Saina Nehwaland RMV Gurusaidatta wrapped the game up for India after they defeated Sergey Scherbin and Aastasia Nazarchuk 21-14, 21-14.Results:
