MUMBAI, July 24: Thane district rural police today withdrew the armed security which was provided to Vasai MLA Hitendra Thakur.
The decision to withdraw the armed security provided to Thakur since the last three years was implemented by district superintendent of police Ashok Kamte, who issued orders accordingly yesterday. Kamte said the state government had in May 1997 issued orders that security should not be continued for those persons who pose threats to their life on account of their own criminal activities.
Thakur was detained under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) along with others in the Suresh Dube murder case. However, the designated Tada court in Pune relieved them of the charges recently. The state government has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the order of the TADA court.
