The UP government has asked the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to send a proposal to the Supreme Court to vacate the stay on entry of tourists at the Taj Mahal after sunset.

Minister of State for Tourism Suresh Khanna said here on Friday that the ASI has been asked to comply with the directives of the apex court on security during the night hours. Earlier, the Supreme Court had put a ban on the entry of tourists at the Taj premises after sunset, due to security reasons.

Convenor of the Tourist Welfare Chamber and a leading handicrafts exporter of the region Prahlad Agarwal said time is ripe to open the Taj Mahal at night as the annual Handicrafts Festival ‘‘Taj Mahotsav’’ will begin from February 18.
