NASHIK MARCH 14: The Village Panchayat elections scheduled for next month have been indefinitely postponed by the Maharashtra Government to facilitate the Census. The first phase of Gram Panchayat polls were to be held on April 7 and the last date of filing nominations was March 13.

However, in a communication to all collectorates, the Government has announced that in view of the ensuing Census (which is conducted every ten years) the elections have been indefinitely postponed. The Census work is conducted by the Government staff besides their regular work.

However, aspirants to 1,700 Gram Panchayats in Nashik district have already started preparing for the elections and most of them are ready for it.
