BJP president L.K. Advani today attacked the Congress and the UPA Government at the Centre, saying the developments in Goa, Jharkhand and Bihar not only reminded one of the Emergency era but would also prove to be a ‘‘turning point’’ in the country’s political history.

Advani, here to launch the state government’s scheme for distribution of footwear among 10 lakh tendu leaf workers and attend a conference on women self-help groups, reiterated his demand for immediate recall of the Governors of Goa and Jharkhand, S.C. Jamir and Syed Sibtey Razi respectively. This, he said, had become even more relevant after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that he had never been consulted by the Governors before they acted.

‘‘I believe post-Assembly election developments and the role played by the Governors have badly dented the UPA Government’s image. This has caused a clear rift among the UPA partners over the manner in which the Governors had acted in haste and in complete violation of the constitutional norms. Serious questions are also being raised in the Congress against its leadership,’’ Advani told mediapersons at Jagdalpur airport.

The BJP president said the prevailing situation in the country, particularly after the unsavoury events that unfolded in Goa, Jharkhand and Bihar, was a grim reminder of the Emergency era. ‘‘As was the case with June 1975, February 2005 is also going to be a turning point in India’s political history,’’ he said.
