Tainted Ntini in SA World Cup squad

PRETORIA: Black fast bowler Makhaya Ntini, who was overlooked for South Africa’s current tour of New Zealand and also faces a rape charge, has been given a chance to win a World Cup place.

Ntini was named today in a South African squad of 19 which must be reduced to a final 15 by the end of March for the limited overs tournament in England starting on May 14.

Two unfamiliar names among the squad of 19 are Nic Pothas and Alan Dawson.

Fan dies in brawl

LONDON: A British boxing fan was killed when he fell under the wheels of a coach after a mass brawl broke out at a Commonwealth title match, ambulance officials said on Sunday.

The31-year-old victim died after fighting erupted between rival supporters during last evening’s bout between Paul Jones and Jason Matthews at the Oldham Sports Centre in Northwest England. He was attacked as he tried to board the coach after the contest but it was not clear whether he fell or was pushed under the wheels of the coach as it tried to leave.
