The Sangh Parivar is putting pressure on the Raman Singh government to take action against non-performing ministers in charge of key departments in the state.
The RSS has talked to the CM about growing public disillusionment due to the state government’s failure to deliver on promises made in the state Assembly elections, sources said. With panchayat and local elections slated for next November or December, the Parivar has asked the government to take action.
There are indications that Singh will order an administrative shake-up to weed out non-performing officers, both in the police and civil administration. The state chief secretary has already been replaced.
The state government swung into action on Wednesday night, 48 hours after BJP general secretary Sanjay Joshi summoned Home Minister Brij Mohan Aggarwal to party headquarters to inform him of the RSS’ displeasure over a number of issues, including the deterioration of the law and order situation in the capital.
Joshi, who was in Raipur to attend the three-day RSS Pratinidhi Sabha conclave, told Aggarwal to show results in the police administration, since the government’s image had been dented by recent Naxalite-related violence.
DGP Ashok Darbari was the first to be shown the door. An appointee of the previous Ajit Jogi government, Darbari has been replaced by O.P. Rathore, who just returned from an eight-year stint as Chief Police Advisor to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.
