NEW DELHI, JANUARY 24: Delhi Police on Monday claimed to have busted a suspected ISI-backed fake currency racket with the arrest of three persons, including two Imams, and seizure of currency notes of Rs 7,500 from them.

Acting on a tip-off, General Railway Police had arrested one Shahid on January 22 while he was allegedly trying to use fake currency notes at old Delhi railway station and recovered four fake notes of Rs 100 denomination from him, Deputy Commissioner of Police Pradeep Srivastava told newsmen here. Search at his residence led to the recovery of more such notes worth a thousand rupees, he said. During interrogation, Shahid allegedly disclosed having received the notes from Mohd Hamid Khan Maulvi, Imam at the Kachehry mosque in Bulandshahr, UP and Naib Imam, Qayamuddin, who were subsequently arrested by a city police team, Srivastava said.

The fake currency was allegedly brought by Qayamuddin from Manipur and the duo’s plans were to find reliable persons and through them pump these fake 100 rupee notes into market at 50 per cent of their price.
