With the new academic year about to begin, over 90,000 aspirants are vying for about 42,000 degree seats available with the Delhi University.
The sale of admission forms for courses offered by various colleges ended on Monday evening and about 90,000 students submitted the application forms, said Deputy Dean Seema Parihar.
Out of the 90,000 applicants, about 15,000 submitted their forms on Monday. However, the University has sold 1.5 lakh application forms.
“We will now scan all forms and make a digital record to classify them. The data will be sent to the colleges in four days after which the colleges will come up with the first cut-off list,” Parihar said.
The first cut-off seat will be announced on June 26. The Delhi University has introduced a quota for OBC students, which will be to the tune of nine per cent in 2008.
It increased the number of seats by 18 per cent to implement the quota. A common pre-admission form has also been introduced from this year.
The varsity introduced information sheets on admission procedures in Braille format to help the visually-challenged.
A total number of 128 visually-challenged aspirants applied for admission by availing the Braille facility.
Besides, 300 physically-challenged students also sought admission in various colleges.
The university received a number of queries from overseas students from various countries of Europe, west Asia and southeast Asia as well.
