With the change of guard in Uttar Pradesh, the process of transferring officials in bulk has once again been set in the motion. And now it is the turn of new Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.

In the first major administrative shake-up taken out on Wednesday evening, 33 officers including the DM of Pratapgarh who led the campaign against the properties of Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya. The Pratapgarh DM Mohammed Mustafa had been in the ‘‘hitlist’’ since Mulayam assumed charge in the state on August 29 and announced withdrawing of POTA against Raja, his father and cousin. Following directives of the then government, Mustafa had attached the huge pond owned by the Raja’s family in Kunda. It was later converted into the Ambedkar bird sanctuary.

Meanwhile, in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Since his arrival in the Capital on Wednesday, the UP CM has been in a swirl making social calls — first, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi; then PM A.B. Vajpayee, later, a luncheon appointment with RLD Ajit Singh and finally, a tea-time meeting with Dy PM Advani.

While his meetings with the PM and Dy PM were ‘‘routine courtesy calls,’’ his pleas to Sonia to join the coalition has invited much speculation. Lunch with Ajit Singh was simply business, with discussions on Cabinet formation and the constitution of a coordination committee, as demanded by the Congress. (ENS)

In total, eight DMs, six SPs and five officials of ADG rank have been shifted while officials, including the Pratapgarh DM, who were close to former CM Mayawati have been kept on the waiting list till further orders. Next on the list is Information Director Rohit Nandan, who was also close to Mayawati.

Yashpal Singh, husband of the SP MLA from Balrampur, has been pulled out of the insignificant Inter-State Border Force and has been placed as ADG in the Provincial Armed Constabulary.

‘‘We are here to share all the necessary information with the media. Whatever was happening in the previous regime, will not be repeated,’’ said Akhand Pratap Singh, the new UP Chief Secretary.
