A jawan of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), deployed close to Bhawan at Vaishno Devi shrine in Udhampur district of Jammu region, shot dead his company commander and another CRPF jawan before committing suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon.
After the shots were fired the critically injured CRPF company command and the jawan were later airlifted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu for specialized treatment but were declared dead in the hospital.
The incident took place at around 10.00 am, when a CRPF jawan, identified as Devinder Singh, shot at his in-charge company commander and another Jawan.
He was deployed with 140 Bn of the Central Reserve Police Force, located quite close to the Bhawan at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra town of Udhampur district.
In the fratricide incident, Devinder Singh first shot at his in-charge company commander Inspector Snoop and then at another CRPF jawan of his company, identified as Parveen Kumar.
Later, he also shot at himself with the service weapon, which was a self-loading rifle and committed suicide, sources informed that adding that the incident shocked the company officials, who were taken aback.
After hearing the shots, the company officials rushed to the spot and found the CRPF jawan Devinder Singh dead and two others injured.
Sources informed that Devinder Singh had a verbal duel with the in-charge company commander Inspector Snoop following which he opened fire at him and another jawan Parveen Kumar near the cave shrine.
Meanwhile, CRPF has ordered an inquiry into the incident, sources adding that Singh was deployed on the route leading to Bhairon Ghati area near the holy shrine.
