Intelligence agencies have obtained ‘reliable evidence’ relating to the terror attack on the CRPF camp in Rampur and a clear picture is expected to emerge within a week, a senior police official said in Rampur on Friday .
Inspector General of Police Badri Prasad hoped that with the UP Special Task Force joining the police in the ongoing probe, “a clear picture will emerge within a week’s time as the intelligence networks have obtained reliable evidence related to the attack”.
Police questioned six persons, allegedly having links with Inter Services Intelligence of Pakistan, in connection with the incident which left eight persons, including seven CRPF men, dead, said Sanjeev Gupta, Superintendent of Police.
Investigating agencies were also screening some CRPF jawans who had joined the paramilitary force after eschewing terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, Additional DIG, CRPF, A.S Thakur said.
CRPF sources said preliminary inquiries suggest the militants, after attacking the guards’ room at the camp, administrative control room and check post proceeded towards the central weaponry store but failed to attack the huge ammunition depot as a jawan fired on them.
The administration has tightened security around key installations, including the Raza library having a collection of rare historical and literary manuscripts, All India Radio’s relay centres, government press, which were on militants’ target as brought out by the e-mail intercepted by security agencies, official sources said.
Meanwhile, a search has begun to trace eight Pakistani nationals who had overstayed in Rampur even after the expiry of their visas.
A state Home Department source in Lucknow admitted there were certain lapses in the security at the camp in the sense that though security personnel were deployed it was to be ascertained how alert they were.
