The presence of RJD president Laloo Prasad Yadav at yesterday’s meeting between Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi and Chief Justice of the Patna High Court R S Dhawan has stirred up a controversy with the BJP registering a strong protest against it.

In a letter to the Chief Justice, Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Sushil Kumar Modi questioned the propriety of Laloo’s presence at the meeting held at the state guest house saying the former Chief Minister was not holding any official position for four years and was on provisional bail granted by the high court in different cases of the fodder scam.

His presence at the meeting to discuss various policy issues related to judiciary would affect the Judicial process, he said. The letter which was released to the press said, ‘‘I have come to know that while the Chief Minister remained silent all through the meeting, RJD president did all the talking and presented his party’s view on various issues before the CJ.’’

Stating that Laloo had never attended any meeting of the State Cabinet after he had to quit as Chief Minister in the wake of the fodder scam, the BJP leader pleaded if RJD president’s presence was needed at the meeting, the government should have also invited leaders of other political parties to it.

Modi requested the Chief Justice to grant an opportunity to the BJP to present the party’s views on various issues pertaining to the judiciary.
