PUNE, Jan 10: The women’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded that few professions must be reserved for women in order to make them economically independent while seeking 25 per cent reservation for women in all factories.

The concluding day of the BJP Mahila Morcha’s national executive meet here saw an unanimous resolution urging the Government to ensure that the bill on 33 per cent reservation for women is passed in the parliament. BJP MP Narendra Modi who was present for the concluding day’s session urged the women to undertake issue-based development work and reach the grass-root levels. The meeting demanded that few professions should be reserved for women. However the professions were not specified. The Mahila Morcha urged the government to take concrete steps to bring down the rise.

Another resolution also demanded the appointment of women on posts like railway hostess and ticket collectors on Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains. Welcoming the proposal by the Centre to table the “Women’s Bill,” the Morcha hoped that the Act would lessen the pendency of cases pertaining to crimes against women by resolving them within six months.

The women’s wing highlighted the Centre’s achievements like the nuclear tests at Pokhran, Prasar Bharati ordinance, a bill to create new states of Vananchal, Uttaranchal and Chhatisgarh, among others.

Those attending the meeting included president of the women’s wing Maya Sing, Nishigandha Mogal, general secretary; Mohini Garg, vice president, Shakuntaka Koushik, vice president; Kanta Nalawade, Maharashtra pradesh president; Shobha Phadanvis, Minister for Civil Supplies and Mrudula Sinha, president of the National Social Welfare Board.
