Close to 2,000 Indian nationals are working in Afghanistan currently, the Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday. In a written reply to a question, Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said, “Indians engaged in GoverNMent of India-aided projects are provided security by GoverNMents of Afghanistan and India under the bilateral agreement.’’ Those working with international agencies and private companies are provided security by their employers, he said. The Minister informed the House that four Indian workers have been killed in Afghanistan during the last three years. This included engineer K Suryanarayana on April 29 this year. The Indian GoverNMent has been in close touch with the GoverNMent of Afghanistan to ensure full security for Indians working there and appropriate steps are being taken to review security arrangements,

he said.
