Bollywood actor Avneet Kaur debuted at the 77th Cannes Film Festival unveiling her film Love in Vietnam’s first look, written and directed by Rahhat Shah Kazmi and produced by Omung Kumar. As a gesture of respect, she paid homage to her Indian roots by touching the red carpet before making her way up the stairs. But what does it signify?

Indianexpress.com spoke to spiritual coaches and found out the significance behind the step.

“This law of action is reflected in many customs rooted in our ancient traditions, such as bowing down at sacred places or touching the feet of elders. These auspicious gestures signify that to gain powers and blessings from revered and respected energies, one must be willing to open up and surrender to them,” shared Himalayan Siddhaa Akshar, yoga master, spiritual guru, and lifestyle coach.

Akshar called it a symbolic gesture of humility demonstrating that we recognise the “elder’s higher spiritual or experiential status” and are ready to benefit from their wisdom.

“When we bow or touch the feet of elders or at energy places, we are not only showing respect but also expressing our willingness to learn and be guided by their knowledge and experience. This act creates a conduit through which positive energy and blessings can flow from the elder to the individual,” he added.

According to him, the physical act of bowing or touching feet/ground is a tangible expression of respect and submission, “while the spiritual aspect involves the transfer of positive energy and blessings”.

Spiritual leader AiR Atman in Ravi explained that folding hands in the form of Namaste is a sign that shows respect and reverence to God. “When done in the context of a person, it symbolises bowing down to the God that dwells in the heart of the person,” he said.

Kaur wore a sparkling Prussian blue Rami Salamoun gown for her red carpet appearance, with a dual-toned cape billowing behind her. She paired the look with a high updo, sparkling heels, and diamonds hanging from her ears. Taking to Instagram, she shared the caption, “And we created history last night at the Cannes Red Carpet!”
