"Works differently but works wonders," shared Neha Dhupia

Neha Dhupia, 45, who is on a 21-day anti-inflammatory challenge, shared her experience, noting that while she felt a “bit heavy” initially, it has eventually started working for her. “Initially, I found that the MCT oil was a bit heavy, but (ditititian) Richa (Gangani) told me to give it 3-4 days to settle down and have the entire concoction in water. I did that. It worked for me. I am on Day 8,” the Bad Newz actor said.

Notably, the concoction made with raw turmeric, raw ginger, 5-7 black peppercorns, and nigella seeds (Kalonji), along with MCT oil, helps reduce inflammation in the body, according to Gangani.

Detailing how she felt on the eighth day, Neha continued: “What am I feeling? Better skin days, better gut health, and definitely better energy levels. It’s something that I can talk about way longer than I am (doing right now). It doesn’t matter where you feel inflamed, whether under your eyes or any other part of the body… You start feeling less inflamed, and it’s quite magical. Let’s not misconstrue this as a weight loss diet because it’s not. It’s anti-inflammatory. Works differently but works wonders.”

But is it effective?

Dt. Amreen Sheikh, Chief Dietitian at KIMS Hospitals, Thane, stated that ingredients such as turmeric, ginger, black pepper, and nigella seeds contain compounds that can help calm inflammation, support digestion, and boost the immune system. “Healthy fats like ghee or coconut oil also help with absorption. So, if someone feels lighter or notices improved energy levels in a few days, that’s not unusual. However, these are supportive benefits, not quick fixes,” said Sheikh.

So, should everyone start this 21-day challenge?

Not necessarily, said Sheikh, adding, “While most healthy adults can safely try it, people with acidity, gallstones, or those on blood thinners should be careful. Both turmeric and ginger can sometimes exacerbate these conditions. A safe approach is to start small, pay attention to how your body reacts, and stop immediately if you feel any discomfort.”

Can one really see visible results in just three weeks with this challenge?

Short-term changes, such as reduced bloating, improved digestion, or feeling more energetic, may occur within 21 days, as mentioned by Sheikh. “But tackling chronic inflammation linked to lifestyle diseases requires more than one drink. A nutrient-rich diet, regular exercise, quality sleep, and managing stress are the real foundations. This drink can provide a gentle boost, but it can’t fix an unhealthy lifestyle,” said Sheikh.

What to note?

A real skin glow, optimal gut health, and reduced inflammation depend on consistency in diet, exercise, sleep, and hydration. “Drinks like these can add value, but they work best as part of the bigger picture, not as a standalone solution,” said Sheikh.
