Finally, it’s time for the Met Gala! Often referred to as ‘fashion’s biggest night’, the annual fundraising gala held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art is all set to return on May 1. This year, it will be celebrated with the theme ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’, and we cannot wait to see how the biggest names of the fashion industry and other invitees interpret the same.
While every year the fashion fiesta is attended by some Indian celebrities, this year, Alia Bhatt is believed to make her Met Gala debut in a Prabal Gurung ensemble. And now, Priyanka Chopra has also confirmed her appearance. Previously, Isha Ambani, Natasha Poonawalla, Priyanka Chopra, and Deepika Padukone, have left everyone impressed with their sartorial picks at the fashion extravaganza.
Last year, socialite Natasha wowed everyone in an ensemble that brought together the design signatures of two globally-acclaimed couturiers, Sabyasachi and Schiaparelli. She wore a stunning golden sari with a trailing train and topped it off with a metal corset.
The only Indian to walk the 2021 Met Gala red carpet was philanthropist Sudha Reddy who turned up in an exquisite Falguni Shane Peacock number. Sudha looked gorgeous in a haute couture embellished golden gown with a huge trail, adorned with Swarovski crystals, sequins and bugle beads, and featuring a design inspired by the American flag.
Deepika Padukone has attended the event not once, but thrice! For her first appearance in 2017, she wore a Tommy Hilfiger strappy satin gown featuring a side slit.
The following year, she was seen wearing a red Prabal Gurung gown featuring a strapless neckline and a side slit. With her hair tied in a bun, she completed the look with red heels and bright red lip colour.
It was her 2019 appearance, however, which grabbed maximum limelight as she wore a voluminous metallic pink gown resembling a Barbie doll by designer Zac Posen.
Priyanka, too, has made three memorable appearances at the Met Gala. She attended it for the first time in 2017 wearing a thigh-high slit Ralph Lauren gown.
In 2018, she opted for yet another Ralph Lauren number — a deep burgundy strapless velvet gown with an intricately beaded and jewelled hood.
The actor attended the Met Gala for the third time in 2019, in a dramatic Dior gown from its Spring 2018 collection.
Another Indian who enthralled everyone with her Met Gala appearance was Isha Ambani who attended the event twice. For her 2019 look, she wore a pale violet tulle v-neck ballgown by designer Prabal Gurung.
Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani’s daughter made her debut in 2017 when she was seen wearing an olive and beige gown by Christian Dior.
