While not claiming to be “organic and stuff”, Gaurav Gupta presented a prêt line that minimised waste and maximised on panic and urgency, on day one.

Titled “Melt”, the collection is a way of starting the conversation on the visible effects of climate change across the globe. Calling it a “start” for himself, Gupta has tried to create this range by consciously keeping “zero waste” in mind, and by draping the entire width of a fabric in a garment.

Gowns, frockcoats and jackets in white, red, orange and shades of grey walked the runway, in fabrics such as neoprene, jersey and silks. Gupta’s signature is strong now, and sometimes it all seems too repetitive but when he creates a range that takes a stand on climate change, one ought to sit up and notice.
