Himachal Pradesh government has decided to document the state’s industrial boom in a coffee table book by narrating both pre and post 2003 central industrial package to showcase some of its remarkable success stories — one of the state’s first ever initiative for marketing brand Himachal.
The coffee table book will be a self-explanatory document in a story telling nature to hook the readers onto the state’s journey of socio-economic change, and transformation of the hill economy as a model of new age growth, said Industries minister Mukesh Agnihotri here.
Agnihotri said he proposes to get the coffee table book released during the upcoming two-day Baddi investment conclave, slated to be held during November-December 2016. Investors from within the country and abroad will be invited to participate in the event and also explore possibilities of new investments in the state .
The coffee table book, as per industries minister, will not only record success stories of leading industrial houses who made a real turn around in their profiles and also contributed to Himachal’s growth, but areas like handloom and handicrafts, tourism and horticulture will also be highlighted .
Bhutti weavers — a Kullu-based cooperative society, which is now a global brand (Bhuttico), Timber Trail ropeway project and Vardhaman Textile ,are just some of the ventures which will be mentioned in the coffee table, in addition to dozens of other untold success stories in Himachal Pradesh.
Some of the industrial giants will also be telling inspiring stories of their own experiences in Himachal Pradesh and will be invited to the conclave to share their views and visions, the minister said.
According to Agnihotri, the biggest achievement of the government was winning over the confidence of the industrial houses which were attracted by the central package, and chose to go into expansions even after the package was withdrawn.
“We were successful in preventing migration of the industry, barring few having their own issues and hit by economic downturn” he added .
State government’s drive “ industry by invitation” drive also paid off well, and industrial investors chose Himachal as their new destination after being attracted by new incentives and removing some of the procedural hurdles including time-bound clearances .
Besides well-researched data, the coffee table book will also be a pictorial back-up.It will trace the origin of the industry, the first industrial unit, and narrate how Himachal Pradesh also became one of world’s largest pharmaceutical hub with a turn-over of Rs 30,000 crores per annum.
Only sometime back,Himachal Pradesh police also brought out a coffee table book which now has become a model for other state police organisations to have similar coffee table books.
