Three militants were killed in an encounter with a joint force of the army and police in Assam’s Lakhimpur district.

Arms were also recovered from them after the encounter midnight last night.

The insurgents exchanged fire with the security forces at Harmoti before they were killed on the spot,official sources said.

Three 9-mm pistols – two US-made and a Chinese one – three magazines,eight live rounds of ammunition and two mobile sets were recovered from the slain ultras.

The bodies had been sent for postmortem and they were not immediately identified,the sources added.
