Sulking BJP leaders B C Khanduri and Bhagat Singh Koshiyari stayed away from the party rally that virtually kickstarted the election campaign for the Uttarakhand assembly elections.
The two former chief ministers were conspicuous by their absence in the rally that was addressed by former BJP President Rajnath Singh and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank among others on Friday.
Party sources said senior BJP leaders had tried hard to bridge differences among the top state party leaders but failed to bring them together, leaving the party worried ahead of assembly elections due early next year.
Khanduri was not available for comments regarding his absence from the rally.
Koshiyari, when contacted, said he could not attend the rally due to some urgent work in Delhi.
“I had some urgent domestic work in Delhi and that is why,I could not attend the rally,” he said.
Khanduri had recently created a flutter in the party by meeting Uttarakhand Kranti Dal President Trivendra Singh Panwar and discussing the possibility of a third front.
Party President Nitin Gadkari had recently convened a meeting of party leaders and told them to stay united for the forthcoming polls.
Gadkari had also said that the next assembly elections would be held under the collective leadership of Nishank,Koshiyari and Khanduri.
