Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Tuesday quashed the detention of five persons arrested last year on charges of stone-pelting.

Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir quashed the detention of Mohammad Ashraf War,Mushtaq Ahmad Dar,Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat,Abdul Ahad Chopan and Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and ordered their release if they are not involved in any other case.

Justice Mir passed the order after hearing the arguments of their counsels. Hailing from different districts of the Valley, the five were arrested by police last year and booked under the PSA for pelting stones at the security forces.

While most of the arrested persons allegedly involved in stone-pelting have been released on the court’s orders, dozens are still languishing in jails in the region.
