Protests against Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das’s arrest and the atrocities on religious minorities in Bangladesh continued on Wednesday in Tripura, where an angry mob recently vandalised the premises of the neighbouring country’s Assistant High Commission.
After a protest in Agartala, a leader of the Vedic Brahmin Samaj said, “We condemn the atrocities on the minorities, especially Hindus, happening in Bangladesh and the arrest of the Hindu monk. He was not even given a lawyer for his defence. We organised a sit-in here and our delegation will submit a memorandum to the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission. We also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk to Bangladesh to ensure the safety of the Hindus there.”
On Tuesday, an outfit called Jago Hindu Jago protested at Dharmanagar Natunbazar, adjacent to the India-Bangladesh border in North Tripura district.
A large group of protesters from Sanatani Yuva took to the streets in Agartala. “We want the attacks on minorities to be stopped and Chinmoy Prabhu to be released. Or else, our protests will continue. As part of it, we hit the streets today,” said a leader of Sanatani Yuva.
Former Union minister Pratima Bhoumik, who joined the protest, said that properties, houses and businesses of the minorities had come under attack at nearly 17,000 places in Bangladesh, adding that no civilised society could condone such barbarism.
“We assembled for a protest meeting seeking unconditional bail for (Chinmoy) Prabhu. Properties of the sanatani minorities are being looted. They were forcibly converted and their daughters were gang-raped… I feel everyone should raise their voice against this,” said the BJP leader.
Meanwhile, police have arrested seven people in connection with the vandalism that took place at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala on Monday.
