Panchkula and Ambala districts put on alert

Panchkula and Ambala districts were today put on alert as the Ghaggar river was in spate following heavy overnight rains in Chandigarh and adjoining areas.

Panchkula and Ambala districts were today put on alert as the Ghaggar river was in spate following heavy overnight rains in Chandigarh and adjoining areas.

The gushing water of Ghaggar swept away three youths in Panchukla district who were later rescued by authorities after several hours of operations,they said.

In Patiala,Sangrur,Mohali,Fatehgarh Sahib,Ropar and Mansa districts a total of 67 breaches had been identified out of which works for plugging of 33 breaches had been completed and rest 34 will be done in the next couple of days.

The situation in flood ravaged districts of Punjab and Haryana was fast improving as army personnel,NGOs,villagers and district administration were working round the clock in the affected areas,even though Mansa faced a grim picture,officials said.
