The Centre warned on Wednesday that the incident of seizure of a train by Maoist-backed tribals could take place in future also as Naxals continued to pursue their agenda of so called armed revolution.

Home Secretary G K Pillai said as long as the Maoists have their one-point agenda of so called armed revolution, they would continue to carry out incidents like the one on Tuesday in the months to come.

“In the months to come, this is something,I think, the country should be prepared for,” Pillai told reporters in New Delhi.

Armed Maoist-backed tribal activists seized the Bhubaneswar-Delhi Rajdhani Express in West Midnapore district in West Bengal but the train was freed by security forces after a five-hour hostage drama.

Describing the incident as nothing but “publicity stunt”,the Home Secretary said the entire operation was planned and executed by armed Maoists and not by local outfit People’s Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA).

“This was an operation, planned operated and executed by the Maoists using the tribals as front,” he said adding the PCPA “itself has lost its relevance”.
