The Tripura Police said they would continue such patrolling to boost confidence among citizens.

Tight security and patrolling continued along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura on Thursday as well.

“We, state police, TSR, and BSF are conducting joint patrolling based on the situation between the two countries. As Belonia is located very close to the international border, and being a sensitive area, we are continuing patrolling in that area,” said a senior police officer.

He added that they would continue such patrolling to boost confidence among citizens.

The BNP, a prominent party in Bangladesh, had called for a march to protest against the breach of security at Bangladesh Assistant High Commission premises in Agartala earlier this month.

Tension between Bangladesh and India had been rising ever since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government in August this year, but the crisis soared particularly after the Indian Tricolour was seen stepped on by people at a Bangladesh university and the Bangladeshi authorities arrested Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das on sedition charges.

In protest against these incidents and alleged atrocities on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh under incumbent Chief Advisor Md Yunus’s administration, a series of agitations were held in Agartala in the last few weeks, which involved burning effigies of Yunus and breach of security at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala and subsequent vandalism inside it.
