Patna will play host to some of the top literary minds from India and beyond as the third Unmesha International Literature Festival kicks off on Thursday. Up to 550 litterateurs and other eminent persons from the field from 16 countries, including screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar and actor and director Amol Palekar, will congregate in the city.

The festival will discuss the role of Dalit literature in social progress and promoting awareness about gender issues, Indian literary feminism, and migration and identity crisis of tribal communities. It will also host a LGBTQ writers’ meet and poetry reading sessions by Indian and foreign poets.
The event is organised by Sahitya Akademi in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and the Government of Bihar.
K Srinivasa Rao, an organiser of the literary festival, said: “Celebrating literary diversity, the festival brings together over 550 eminent writers, poets, scholars, translators, publishers, and distinguished personalities from various fields, representing more than 100 languages. The event expects participation from writers from around 15 countries, including Bulgaria, Chile, Fiji Islands, France, Japan, Germany, Indonesia, Bhutan, Mauritius, Nepal, Russia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.”
Also in attendance will be Bihar Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson Harivansh, historian Badri Narayan, and artists Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari, Pratibha Ray, Arun Kamal, Ashwani Kumar and Anand Neelakantan.
