Even as the Himachal Pradesh government applied the final touches to preparations for President Pranab Mukherjees three-day visit to the hill state,Rashtrapati Bhawan on Tuesday specifically directed all hosts state Vidhan Sabha secretariat,Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) and the Himachal Pradesh University to refrain from addressing the President as His Excellency.
The President has desired that he should not be addressed as His Excellency,but only as Shri Pranab Mukherjee, says the latest communication on his approved itinerary. The order has forced most of the hosts to rework their welcome addresses by deleting all references to His Excellency.
During his visit,the President will address legislators at Vidhan Sabha to mark beginning of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Assembly House,which served as the Council Chamber during the Raj days. The building was inaugurated by then Viceroy Lord Reading on August 27,1925. Assembly Speaker BBL Butail,who has been behind the visit,says that the President will also unveil the e-Vidhan Sabha project that envisages using web-based technology for the functioning of the Vidhan Sabha and its standing committees.
The President will stay at The Retreat,his summer resort on the outskirts of Shimla upon his arrival on May 23. Governor Urmila Singh will host a dinner for him on the same evening.
The President will also deliver a lecture at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS). President Pranab Mukherjee will deliver the first Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Lecture and open a study centre-cum-museum dedicated to the life and work of Rabindranath Tagore, said IIAS public relations officer A K Sharma. He is also scheduled to be the chief guest at the convocation ceremony of Himachal Pradesh University.
