Several MLAs on Wednesday accused the Haryana government of not doing much to curb swine flu cases in the state.

“I will request the health minister to visit any hospital in the state and he will realise that curtains have been put up on the doors of one or two rooms, which have been designated as isolation centres. There is no staff to operate ventilators available in the hospitals,” Congress MLA Sampat Singh said in the Assembly.

“When I moved this calling attention motion on February 11,at least 21 people had died of swine flu in Haryana. Till today,I am told that the toll has reached 40. It is very alarming number and the state government must ensure corrective measures to deal with the menace”,he added.

Claiming that according to a national survey, the condition of health services in Haryana have become worse,INLD MLA Rampal Majra said: “As many as 23 per cent villages have no health centre. While 17.7 per cent villages have no primary health centre,58 per cent primary health centres have no accommodation for staff to live in,80 per cent have no women doctor and 37 per cent hospitals do not have beds.”

In his reply,Health Minister Rao Narender Singh maintained that the state government was taking all steps to control and prevent swine flu. “Isolation facility is in place in every district hospital with a total capacity of 214 beds. Out of 360 cases detected so far,56 patients were admitted in government district hospitals. Out of these 360 positive cases,92 patients were discharged,141 given home quarantine treatment. While 38 deaths have been reported,89 patients have been admitted till March 1,the minister added.
