HP asks for Centre’s help to promote alternate crops

Himachal Pradesh government on Monday requested the Centre to provide liberal technical,financial and logistic assistance to the state to promote alternative crops in mid Himalayan districts of Kullu,Mandi,Chamba and Shimla in order to check cannabis and opium cultivation.

Himachal Pradesh government on Monday requested the Centre to provide liberal technical,financial and logistic assistance to the state to promote alternative crops in mid Himalayan districts of Kullu,Mandi,Chamba and Shimla in order to check cannabis and opium cultivation. Speaking at a conference of chief ministers on 5th Report on Public Order of 2nd Administrative Reforms Commission in New Delhi,Himachal Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dhani Ram Shandil said that the law enforcement capabilities of the state needed to be better trained,equipped and financed to address the problem of drug trafficking. He requested the central government to treat Himachal Pradseh as ‘A’ category states,which included like Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast for liberal funding.
