Cong sweeps Gurgaon Municipal Corporation poll

Congressmen Vimal Yadav,Yashpal Batra and Parminder Kataria have been elected to MCG top posts.

All the three posts of Mayor,Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the first ever elections to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) have been clinched by the candidates supported by Congress party.

The Councilor of ward number 4,Vimal Yadav has been elected first Mayor of the MCG.

The election for these posts was held on Tuesday in the HUDA Zymkhana Club here in the presence of Divisional Commissioner T K Sharma,an official spokesman said.

Yadav,secured 20 votes while his opponent Seema Pahuja got 9 votes.

Yashpal Batra of ward number 12 was elected Senior Deputy Mayor with the support of 20 councilors while his rival Mahesh Dayma got 10 votes.

Parminder Kataria of ward number 6 got 20 votes for the post of Deputy Mayor and defeated Rama Rani Rathi who secured 9 votes.

Out of the 35 councilors,six councilors belonging to Indian National Lok Dal boycotted the election process,alleging horse trading in the mayor election.

Divisional Commissioner T K Sharma,who had postponed the election at eleventh hour on June 14 chaired the election process on Tuesday.
