There seems to be no end to the Congress’ woes in Haryana as another party veteran, former Faridabad MP Avtar Singh Bhadana, resigned on Tuesday. His decision to quit the party comes in wake of his recent meetings with BJP leadership.

Bhadana, who had openly blamed Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh for the Lok Sabha poll rout (the party won just one of the 10 seats in the state), has sent his resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi listing his grievances. The veteran, however, had himself suffered defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, losing to now Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar by over 4.5 lakh votes at Faridabad.

His efforts to take on Hooda received no support in the party, leaving him completely disillusioned.

Haryana Congress president Ashok Tanwar told The Indian Express that there was no official word on Bhadana’s resignation. “Though I have no official information yet, it has come to my notice that he has resigned. It seems everybody has his own agenda but the party is strong,” he added.

The development comes on the day that Congress general secretary Shakeel Ahmed confirmed that the party has received the response of its Rajya Sabha MP Birender Singh, who had been served notices for meeting top BJP leaders including party president Amit Shah. Birender Singh told The Indian Express that he had met the BJP president out of courtesy.

He added that he will make an important announcement at a rally on August 18 that will be attended by Shah.
