12 injured in grenade attack at Imran Khan’s rally

The attack wounded 12 people,including seven policemen.

Unidentified attackers on Friday threw two hand grenades and opened fired at a police vehicle after a political rally,conducted by cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan in the northwestern town of Swabi,came to closure.

It wounded 12 people,including seven policemen,police officials confirmed.

However,Imran escaped unhurt as he had already left the venue when the attack occurred.

Police opened retaliatory fire following the explosions while the area was cordoned off and a bomb disposal squad reached the site.

Imran,who heads the Tehreek-e-Insaf,later said he was unhurt and safe,as the attack took place after he had already left the rally’s venue.
