Ice-cream parlour sex case: Supreme Court dismisses VS Achuthanandan’s plea on CBI probe

Observing that it “will not become party to political battles where people have political vendetta and rivalries”, the Supreme Court Monday dismissed a plea filed by former Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan seeking a CBI probe into the Kozhikode ice-cream parlour sex controversy.

A bench led by Chief Justice T S Thakur asked the CPM leader to approach the trial court with his grievances about investigation and closure report filed by the Special Investigation Team.

Advocate K K Venugopal, appearing for the Kerala government, said Achuthanandan’s plea was politically motivated.

The state government maintained its stand, although Kerala is now ruled by the Left Democratic Front. The Kerala High Court had dismissed his plea seeking a CBI probe into the case, allegedly involving then industries minister P K Kunhalikutty.
