Debate and dialogue are soul of Parliament, says Modi

Modi said before the parliament session, "When I say a ray of hope, I mean H for harmony, O for opportunity, P for people's participation and E for equality."

In an attempt to set the tone for Parliament’s winter session, beginning today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said debate, discussion and dialogue are soul of the Parliament.

Pointing out that there is no bigger centre for Samvad than the Parliament, Modi said: “The Parliament session will have good debates, discussions, innovative ideas and the Parliament will shine.”

His statement came in the wake of a raging debate in the country over incidents of intolerance. The Opposition is all set to put the government on the mat over the incidents as well as some inflammatory comments. The ruling BJP has slammed some remarks from eminent personalities on the intolerance saying that they over reacting and those would dmage the country’s image.

However the government has indicated it is ready for a discussion.

Speaking outside Parliament before the session begins, Modi said : “Our constitution is a ray of hope: H for harmony, O for Opportunity, P fir people’s participation and E for equality.”


Recalling his meeting with leaders of all parties, Modi said everyone agreed that the house should function ina cordial atmosphere. “There can be no better place for having a conversation on issues of national debate than Parliament. ” Conversation and debates are the soul of Parliament and there are lot of other stages available for other purposes. I am happy that all parties have put forward constructive views for debates. I hope we won’t be in short in our efforts to fulfill the expectations of having healthy debates in Parliament,” Modi said in his statement.


Greeting people on the Constitution Day, from his twitter handle Modi tweeted: Let us always uphold the ideals and values of our constitution and create an India that would make our founding fathers very proud.”
