Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Wednesday said former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf had “personally assured” him of Pakistan “withdrawing its troops” from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) “if India agrees to right to self determination”.

“Whenever you raise the UN resolutions, India says that Pakistan is not willing to demilitarise (its) Kashmir,” Geelani said while answering a question at a press conference in Srinagar.

“Let me tell you, Musharraf sahib personally told me that he is ready to withdraw troops (from PoK) if India is willing to hold right to self determination for the Kashmiris,”Geelani said adding that while the UN resolutions on Kashmir call for demilitarisation of PoK by Pakistan, it also says that India should withdraw “bulk of its forces” from Kashmir.

Geelani was addressing a press conference in Srinagar to demand the release of senior separatist leader Masarat Alam, who was slapped with his third consecutive Public Safety Act (PSA) case since his arrest in April this year. “We demand immediate release of Masarat Alam,” Geelani said.
